Transforming Luton is a loosely connected group of churches that are within the town, dedicated to prayer, celebration and evangelism. Following on from the Just Ten mission of summer 2001, where 64 churches combined in a town wide, 10 week series of mission evenings with the evangelist J. John, the vision was to continue the work in partnership with each other under a single banner headline. With
effective and fervent prayer, celebration and evangelism, the society of Luton will be transformed. The emphasis is on projects and action, and it is there that the uniqueness of the network lies.
Celebration is usually in the form of large gatherings for worship, praise and teaching, two or three times a year, one of which is always Pentecost Praise at St Mary’s,
where, over the years, the speakers have included Tony Campolo, Gordon Macdonald, Lyn Green and Graham Kendrick.
Prayer is looked after by the Luton Prayer Initiative which organises Concerts of Prayer as well as groups of Christians meeting to intercede for the town throughout its different communities.
Mission and evangelism takes place in a whole variety of different projects, whether it’s in a large mission focused evening or teaching conferences or town centre open air meetings or door-to-door visitations etc.
The steering group is currently headed by Simon Dust, Vicar of Christchurch Bushmead and is made up of a small group of enthusiastic leaders convinced of the value of working together for the extension of God’s Kingdom throughout the town.
