Sat 1st Pray for members of St Mary’s attending the New Wine Festival in Shepton Mallett this week. Pray they will have times of encountering God and being refreshed spiritually as they join thousands in worship.
Sun 2nd Give thanks for our international congregation. At 12 noon today we will be celebrating Dynamic Praise & Worship led by some of African congregation. Everyone is welcome to join in.
Mon 3rd Tonight, Music on Monday will be holding their fortnightly concert. Give thanks for our beautiful building with wonderful acoustics.
Tues 4th Crawley Green Road Cemetery is the responsibility of St Mary’s Church, managed by the Trustees & chaired by Rev Mike Jones. Rebecca Orrin is the cemetery manager. Pray for the Trustees as they meet today, & especially for Rebecca as she has the day-to-day responsibilities there.
Wed 5th Welcome Wednesday will be opening the church today. Pray for those who are regular attendees and for those who wander in for the first time, that they will equally feel welcome and feel the presence of Jesus.
Thurs 6th The Youth Event, Satellites, starts today in Somerset. Pray for Adam and the group of Leaders & Young People going to the camp from St Mary’s. Pray that they each will encounter God in new ways.
Fri 7th Pray for the Mike, our Vicar, & Jay, our new Curate, as they have a day of rest and refreshment today. Give thanks for Andy Pike our Associate Vicar and for Chris Adams, both of whom share the responsibility of leading and teaching at St Mary’s with the paid clergy.
Sat 8th Pray for Angela & Martin as they collect ‘Best before’ food from M&S each week for distribution at Noah and amongst our congregation. Pray especially for those who come in before the end of the early service and hear the words of hymns & prayers. May God speak to them through this.
Sun 9th During August each Sunday at 9am we will be having Holy Communion. Pray for each person who comes in, that they will understand more of the love Jesus has for them – whether they are regular members, or first-time visitors.
Mon 10th Please continue to pray for all the negotiations going on with the Football Club concerning the covenants on the land. That the outcome will be fair for us and LTFC. Give thanks for Mark Stevens using all his skills in doing this work on our behalf!
Tues 11th Today, Archdeacon Dave Middlebrook with be meeting with Sue & Yasmin, our churchwardens for the Annual Visitation. This gives them a chance to talk about all that God is doing at St Mary’s as well as the plans we have for the future.
Wed 12th Timothy encourages us to pray for ‘kings and all those in authority’ (1 Tim 2:2). So today pray for our new Prime Minister Andy Burnham and he starts in his new role. Pray for our MPs during the summer recess, especially for Rachel Hopkins and Sarah Owens.
Thurs 13th Today some of our young people will be getting their A level results. Please pray for them on this important day – as this will be the next step into the rest of their lives – whether that’s on for further education or whether they are looking for training or for a job.
Fri 14th Many of our older members are struggling with the limitations of old age – either physical or mental. Pray too for those who care for them – who may also find life difficult. May they know God with them, helping to face each day with courage.
Sat 15th Please pray for the Whiting family as Harley will need surgery this summer at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge. They will be in hospital for a few days after the surgery. Pray that the surgery will be done safely, and that Harley will recover well, ready to start school in September. Ask that God gives His peace to each member of the family through this time.
Sun 16th This afternoon our Zimbabwean congregation will be meeting for their monthly Shona service. Pray for those who lead and those who come to worship God in their first language. Many travel from quite a distance to be at this service.
Mon 17th Pete & Becky Clemison were sent out from St Mary’s to work with YWAM in the Philippines. They are currently in the UK helping to settle their children into UK schools. Please pray for each member of the family through these changes. They will be speaking at St Mary’s in September.
Tues 18th Please remember Bishop Andrew, the new Bishop of St Albans, as he and his family more to St Albans over the summer. Pray for him as he takes up his new role here in the Diocese.
Wed 19th Give thanks for our office team – Ian (Hirings & Building) and Rachel (Administrator). For the skills and ability each has, and the way they help to make church run smoothly.
Thurs 20th Today is GCSE results day. Whatever their results, help each young person as they make decisions about their next steps – vocational courses or on to A levels. For some it will be a day of happiness and others disappointment. May they know that God is with them.
Fri 21st Tonight we are hosting a Red Events Concert – ‘Recomposed by Max Richter’. Pray for Ian – our Hirings and Events Manager as he makes sure tonight’s event is a great success. Give thanks that this company have confirmed 4 bookings for 2027 – bringing in much needed finances.
Sat 22nd Tonight the ladies of St Mary’s will be meeting at the Vicarage for a Joy Zone Evening - a time of Fellowship, Fun & Food. Pray for the ladies that they’ll get to know each other better – and time away from home responsibilities. Sign up Ladies if you’d like to join in.
Sun 23rd Each Sunday during August we will be having an Intergenerational Service. Pray that each person who comes in - from the youngest to the oldest, that each person will learn something new about their Heavenly Father and will be changed by being in His presence.
Mon 24th Pray for those involved in providing Health & Social Care. There is always so much work to do and the time and finances so limited. Pray for the government as they plan ways of improving our care system.
Tues 25th Please continue to pray for Jay (our new curate) & her husband Chris, as they wait for the diocese to get St Matthew’s Vicarage ready for them to move in to. Pray for Jay as she continues to commute from Cambridge to St Mary’s, adding significant time to her work each week.
Wed 26th At the end of each month, John Mascoll counts and banks all the money that has been given during the month. The Finance team meets every couple of months as they plan the way it should be used. As prices continue to rise – is God asking you to review your giving, tithes and offerings?
Thurs 27th Today is Welcome Thursday. Give thanks that we are now open on two mornings each week for people to come in and meet with God. Pray for the Mosaic Team who run the Coffee Pop Up that they would have significant conversations with all who come to buy a coffee.
Fri 28th The Building Development team are still working in the background. We hope to take plans, which our architect, Mark Eddison has drawn up to the Diocesan Advisory Committee in the autumn with plans. The team in York are writing our Conservation Management plan. Pray that we will find favour with them.
Sat 29th Give thanks for all who serve at Young Church, Youth, Impact, Young Church and creche week by week. Renew their sense of calling into this ministry and ask God to empower & equip them for this ministry as they prepare to be starting again in the autumn
Sun 30th Please pray for the police this Bank Holiday weekend. Give thanks for the peace we generally enjoy in our town. Pray that this peace will be experienced across our nation and especially throughout the Notting Hill Carnival that take place across this weekend.
Mon 31st Today is a Bank Holiday – marking the end of the summer holidays. Pray for teachers and children as they prepare to start the new autumn term at school
