As a church family, we believe it is really important to pray about everything that we do at St Mary’s. Use this prayer diary as a way of direction in your daily prayer.

January 2026
Thurs 1st At the start of this new year take time to consider your personal walk with God. Have you made any New Year’s Resolutions to develop your personal walk with God?
Fri 2nd We start this New Year with no Church Administrator. The advert is out. Please pray that God will prompt the right person to apply. Do you know someone you could talk to about the job?
Sat 3rd Pray for all the Christian familes at St Mary’s – that the parents will help their children learn more about Jesus and that their homes will bring light to their communities. Pray for the parents as there are so many pressures on them and their children in today’s society.
Sun 4th Today we start a Week of Prayer (*each evening on Zoom) – The title for the week is ‘Strengthening the Foundation, Building with Jesus’. Please plan on joining in at least once on Zoom this week!
Mon 5th – Today we are praying for our Intra-cultural Church *. Pray that we will learn from each other, and that this will strengthen us as a church.
Tues 6th Today we are praying for our community * – those who live or work around us.
Wed 7th We give thanks to God for our Youth and The Feast *. Pray for Adam and Ulrike as they work together in supporting this work.
Thurs 8th Today pray for the children that St Mary’s is in contact with * – both as members of our church, and also for the children who come into St Mary’s with the School’s Work. Please pray for Harika as she heads up the Children’s Work, and for Andy Fisher who leads the Schools Work.
Fri 9th Joseph has completed his curacy. Please pray for him as he applies for a new job. Pray that God will guide him to the church where he can use all the experience he has gained over many years in ministry. Pray for all the family during this unsettling time.
Sat 10th Today consider joining us for a Prayer Walk around the parish. Meet at St Mary’s at 10am, where we will start praying for our Parish, then go out in pairs to ask God’s blessing on the homes we will pass.
Sun 11th Today we start a new series looking at the book of Nehemiah. Pray that we will all hear the voice of God as Nehemiah did when God called him. What is God calling you to this New Year?
Mon 12th Pray for the older members of our congregation who find these dark, cold winter days so difficult. Pray for others who are finding life difficult because of health issues, finances or relationship difficulties – that God will meet them in that situation.
Tues 13th Today the children from Haileybury School will be visiting the church. Pray that they will feel welcome and learn more of God’s love for them, as well as the hisotory of our church.
Wed 14th Thank God for all the people who have come through the church doors at Welcome Wednesday in the last year. Pray for them as they grow in faith and learn more of God. We hope to open on another weekday this year. Is God calling to to be a volunteer to enable this to happen?
Thurs 15th Pray for our young people. Pray that they will grow in their faith and that God will help them as Christians in school, amongst friends of other faiths or none. Ask God that he will help them in their witness.
Fri 16th Our advert for a new Church Operations Manager will be live until the end of the month. Please ask God to prompt the right person to apply for this key job in the life of the church.
Sat 17th Please continue to pray for the Buildings Developement Team as they work with Mark, our Architect, and the team from the University of York, as we seek to move this project forward to have accessible toilets and a servery in the church. “Expect great things from God; Attempt great things for God.” (William Carey)
Sun 18th Thank God for the young musicians we have at St Mary’s. Pray for them today as they have a Band practice and learn how to worship together and lead us in worship when they play. Thank God for Phoebe (one of our church organists) as she is helping them.
Mon 19th Tomorrow the Seekers Group meet for their monthly meeting in the Church Lounge. Thank God for the older members of our church and for Alison, Margaret and Cathy as they help and encourage them.
Tues 20th Pray for all those attending the Alpha course which started last Wednesday. If you are new to faith, or want to find out more about being a Christian, it’s not too late to join the course.
Wed 21st This week (19th – 23rd) the University of Bedfordshire will be holding the Graduations in the Church. Thank God for all those students who have lived as our neighbours during their studies – some of whom won’t have been in our building before. Ask God to make them more curious about finding more about Him.
Thurs 22nd Thank God for the work of The Feast led locally by Ulrike and Krystina. Give thanks for all the young people who come to the meetings and pray that the dialogues will help the young people to understand each other.
Fri 23rd Please pray for our clergy – for Mike our Vicar, for Andy our Associate Vicar, for Joseph our Curate, and for Chris Adams. Today is their day off – pray that they will be rested and refreshed.
Sat 24th Thank God for our neighbours at Luton Town Football Club. Pray that the work of building the new stadium will progress as planned, and for our negotiations with them concerning the covenants that remain on part of the land when it was the Vicarage and Vicarage Garden.
Sun 25th Thank God for our refreshemnts team who arrive early every Sunday to make the coffee and set up so that it’s ready when we arrive. They are always needing more helpers. As you thank God for the team, ask if you could be an answer to your own prayers.
Mon 26th The Church Team meet every Monday to plan the week and the services. Without a Church Administrator pray for them as they are all doing extra jobs at this time. Please be patient if they forget something!
Tues 27th Thank God for Alan and his small team of helpers who together keep our building well maintained. They are always needing more help – could you spare a few hours on Tuesday mornings?
Wed 28th Thank God for each person who has a role at St Mary’s. If you’ve been coming for a while, ask God where you fit in!
Thurs 29th Thank God for Andrew Rodell, our Treasurer, as he, together with the finance team, manages the church finances. As you review your finances in the first month of the year, can you consider giving more to the work of God.
Fri 30th Our Young People are away this weekend. Pray that each person will experience more of God and grow in their faith. Pray for Adam as he leads the weekend. Pray for safety as they travel and for good health for each one.
Sat 31st Today is the closing date for applications for the Church Office Manager’s post. Please pray for those who will be shortlisting from the applicants, that they will hear God leading them and guiding them to the right person.
February 2026
Sun 1st Please continue to pray for our Young People and their leaders as they are away for the weekend. That each one will have grown in their faith as a result of being away.
Mon 2nd Today members of the HR Team will be shortlisting the applicants for interview for the really important role of Church Operations Manager. Pray that God will be guiding their choices.
Tues 3rd The Hirings Team will be meeting at lunch time. Give thanks for the hirings that are already confirmed for this year which helps us being financially sustainable in our work & mission in the town.
Wed 4th We open our doors today for Welcome Wednesday. Pray for each person who comes through our doors today, that they will encounter Jesus. As we consider opening on Thursdays soon, pray that a good team will be built up to enable this to happen.
Thurs 5th The HR Team is very small. We are praying that more people will join this team who have the relevant experience in HR matters. If that’s you – please let the office know. Pray for the team as they meet today.
Fri 6th Thank God for Adam (Youth Minister) & Bethany (church cleaner) today! Pray for them as they have a day off after a very busy weekend away last weekend.
Sat 7th The new stadium is being build – the piles are being put in. Please pray for the negotiations that are going on regarding the covenants on the land. For a wise and fair settlement for us & LTFC and continuing good relationships.
Sun 8th Our series in Nehemiah continues today on the topic – ‘Facing Opposition’. Whatever our situation corporately or individually – let’s find out today how we can face opposition with God’s help.
Mon 9th Today about 300 15-year-old students from Chalkhill Academy, Dunstable, will be visiting St Mary’s today. Pray for the young people as they come into the church – many of whom will never have been in a church before, that they understand that Jesus is for today – not just a story of a man 2000 years ago!
Tues 10th Please pray for Harika today as her current visa expires this week. As she applies for an extension, ask God to guide her, whether it’s to remain in the UK or return to India. May she know God’s leading & guiding.
Wed 11th Welcome Wednesday explores the background to Valentine’s Day today. May each person experience how much God loves them today – the only One Who was prepared to die for us because He loves us that much!
Thurs 12th Today we will be interviewing for the post of Church Operations Manager. Pray that God will guide us to the right person for this role.
Fri 13th Schools break up today for the half term break. Pray for teachers & children that they will be refreshed during this break. And for parents, as some will have child-care issues as they juggle work and family commitments
Sat 14th Today is Valentine’s Day. Pray for Christian Marriages – your own or for couples you know. That God will strengthen them and protect them. Pray for those who have lost their life partner and are feeling lonely today.
Sun 15th As we start our Lent Course – The Difference Course, we will be looking at what it means to follow Jesus in a complex and divided world. It will help us to cross divides, navigate disagreement and pursue a just and flourishing world. Come along – prepared to learn and change! (Details of how you can join in will be advertised.)
Mon 16th This week Luton Irish Forum will be using our hall for a Half term Holiday Club. Pray that those coming in and out of our building will receive a warm welcome and have lots of fun this week.
Tues 17th Today is Shrove Tuesday – the day before Lent begins. Let’s ask God if there is something we should do over the next 6 weeks as we prepare for Easter. Could you give something up (Facebook, Instagram or other social media), or a favourite food, and spend more time with God?
Wed 18th Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent when we prepare ourselves for Easter, recalling all Jesus did for us. A time for repentance and reflection. What are you going to do?
Thurs 19th Give thanks for all the volunteers at St Mary’s. There are many teams that need help. Speak to one of the ministers or Sue if you’d like to find out more.
Fri 20th Let’s pray for those who are homeless in our town and have to sleep rough. Thank God for Noah and the work they do to support many of these people.
Sat 21st Thank God for Angela & her team of helpers who collect excess food from M&S each weekend. Pray for those who come to collect it from St Mary’s and for those who receive it at Noah.
Sun 22nd Pray for Peter Adams as he starts our Lent series on ‘God’s call – recognising our call to be peacemakers’.
Mon 23rd The Deanery Synod meet this evening. Pray that the churches in the Luton Deanery will work together well.
Tues 24th, Thank God for our beautiful building – but it takes a lot to keep it well maintained. Pray for the Building Liaison Team as they plan work that needs doing, and for Alan, Glenn & Geoff as they do some of the work. Do you have time on Tuesdays to give them a hand for a few hours?
Wed 25th Today, the Alpha Course will be meeting. Pray for each member of the course – that they will find out and understand more about being a Christian. Pray that they will be more certain of their faith and be prepared to talk about the course with friends and neighbours.
Thurs 26th Please pray for the Adewale family, as Joseph’s time as our Curate begins to come to an end. Pray that God would lead and guide them in the place he has prepared for them.
Fri 27th Luton Borough Council celebrates 150 years this week. As part of their celebrations, we will be hosting their event today, and they will plant a tree in our churchyard. Give thanks for Luton and pray for its peace and prosperity.
Sat 28th Give thanks that St Mary’s reflects a bit of what heaven will be like with people of all nationalities worshipping together. Today, we will be exploring what it means to be an Intracultural Church. Sign up if you’d like to find out more!
